Strong and calm.

Magnesium is a truly magical mineral and helps facilitate over 300 chemical reactions in the body. It’s no wonder that magnesium supports cardiovascular health, muscles, nerves, bones, mood, brain health and metabolism.

The truth is that most people are deficient in magnesium and would benefit from supplementation. They aren’t getting enough from their diet alone, mostly because soil quality has become increasingly depleted over the years (leading to a depleted food supply). And many have increased needs for magnesium because of toxin exposures or health issues.

Magnesium glycinate and dimagnesium malate are both forms of magnesium that are well absorbed. Glycine (from glycinate) is a calming amino acid that supports brain health, digestion, joints and promotes sleep. Malic acid (from malate) supports energy metabolism and antioxidant systems in the body.

FAQ

What is Magnesium Glycinate?

Magnesium is a truly magical mineral and helps facilitate over 300 chemical reactions in the body. It’s no wonder that magnesium supports cardiovascular health, muscles, nerves, bones, mood, brain health and metabolism.

How do I know if I need to take Magnesium Glycinate?

According to 2018 studyover 50% of people are deficient in magnesiumOver 300 enzymes need magnesium as a co-factor. What this means is that a lot of functions in the body cannot work properly without magnesium.

You can check your magnesium levels with a simple blood test. Ask your doctor for a Red Blood Cell (RBC magnesium) level not just a serum level – it doesn’t show what the stores are in the body.

What impacts Magnesium levels?

Several factors contribute to depletion of magnesium levelsOur bodies are constantly using and burning it upwe are not absorbing magnesium well; and the amounts in the soil are going down.

  • Exercise takes extra amounts of magnesium and depletes it.
  • Eating sugar and refined foods depletes magnesium.
  • Toxin exposures – we are all exposed to small amounts of environmental toxins every day. The process that the body goes through when trying to eliminate toxinsalso depletes magnesium.
  • The supply is decreased in our food. The soil does not have as much of mineralsincluding magnesium that it needs to produce nutrient dense foods
  • Even though I recommend eating the foods that are high in magnesium, especially leafy greens, a lot of the time you are not getting the amounts that you need from food, and not absorbing it
  • Other foods that can be helpful to consume for raising levels include nuts, avocado, and bananas.

What are the important body functions that we need Magnesium for?

  • Helps the heart to pump.
  • Helps the pancreas to function.
  • For any muscle activity – if you are getting muscle cramps it could be because you are low in magnesium.
  • Required for blood vessels to dilate and contract. Sometimes high blood pressure is a symptom of not having adequate amounts magnesium.
  • Helpful to keep bowels moving - taking magnesium can be a gentle, non-laxative non-habit-forming way for having daily bowel movement.
  • We need it for making our neurotransmitters - for happy mood and to feel like our brain is firing.
  • Super important for blood sugar, helps insulin be more sensitive to our cells to regulate blood sugar levels
  • Need for making energy at mitochondrial level – to have all the energy to run all the functions in the body.
  • For adrenalsChronic stress can impact the way our adrenals work - we need magnesium to keep our adrenal glands working well to help make the hormones that we need.
  • Sleep. If you are low in magnesium you may not be sleeping well. Take at bedtime for better quality sleep.
  • Need for detoxification – we need great levels of magnesium to help clear toxins out of our body.
  • Vitamin D If we don’t have adequate levels of magnesium our vitamin metabolism doesn’t work as well for things like building our bones. Take magnesium with vitamin D and check your vitamin D level annually.

What is are symptoms of low Magnesium?

Poor sleeping, muscle cramps, constipation, high blood pressure.

What is an adequate level vs optimal?

Since we know that magnesium is helping so many body functions, you don’t want to just be getting by, you should make sure that your levels are optimalAlmost everyone needs to take magnesium for their levels to be optimal.

How much Magnesium Glycinate should I take?
